Wet and Windy New Year’s Eve in Denmark
In Denmark, residents are bracing for a challenging New Year’s Eve as weather forecasts predict a stormy night. Klaus Larsen from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has warned that the evening will be marked by significant rain and strong winds. The day is set to start with mild temperatures ranging from 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, but as the day progresses, conditions will deteriorate, especially in Vendsyssel where snow or sleet may occur. As celebrations begin on Tuesday night, people are urged to secure their New Year hats and fireworks tightly. Wind conditions are expected to shift from moderate to strong from the southwest, with gusts reaching up to storm level by evening. The northern regions will see rain spreading across the country, adding to the already hazardous conditions for those planning to light fireworks. Emergency services in Denmark have labeled the combination of strong winds and fireworks as a "very flammable cocktail," reinforcing the need for caution. The Danish Safety Authority recommends that individuals maintain a safety distance of at least 400 meters from buildings with thatched roofs and other combustible materials, suggesting to double the typical safety distance. Those celebrating are strongly advised to be extra vigilant, considering the potential dangers posed by wet fireworks and gusty winds that could prompt errant firework trajectories.
